Oh, the Places We’ll Go!

Shepard: One Second Every Classroom
Inspired by the popular app One Second Everyday, we created this video in January as a way to share a snapshot view of everything happening around our school. The process of creating the video was both inspiring and invigorating. As anyone in education knows, teaching can be a pretty isolating sport at times. Teachers work diligently in their own classrooms with their students but don’t always have the opportunity to see what’s happening in their colleague’s classroom down the hall or even next door. As former classroom teachers now working together on the Learning Commons Team, we recognize the privilege that comes with working with our phenomenal staff and students and being able to get a glimpse of the magic that happens each and every day within the walls of Shepard Middle School.
As the wise Dr. Seuss noted in Oh, the Places You’ll Go, “You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose.” Shepard teachers are opening so many doorways to students, providing them more engaging real-world experiences than ever before! Sixth graders created TED-style talks about grit and learned about the power of kindness from our very own associate principal, Michelle Friedman. Seventh graders demonstrated their innovative thinking in Shepard Shark Tank and sought to make a real difference in the world through their How to Change the World projects. Eighth graders took their research and content knowledge to the next level through science fair projects and presentations as well as their self-selected modern-day genocide essays. Most importantly and more than ever, learning at Shepard is relevant to the world around us. With our dedicated teaching staff, remarkable students, and outstanding resources, we are engaging, empowering, and inspiring our students like never before.
