Student Announcements – January 20, 2017

Attention all Peer Mediators!  Due to a conflict, we will have a meeting this upcoming Tuesday instead of Thursday.  We will continue our planning for our upcoming Peace Week.  Please see Mrs. Markarian if you have any questions.

 

The sixth grade boys won their second game in a row against Caruso 50-42. It was another great team effort, especially on the offensive end.  Great work, boys!

 

The 7th grade girls basketball team got off to a slow start yesterday against Field, but rebounded after a strong 18 point second quarter. After the flurry of points in the second quarter the team never looked back routing Field 40-8. Please congratulate the team on their incredible achievement and wish them luck for their tournament games next week.

Thanks to all of the sixth grade students who submitted designs for this year’s Shepard Talks logo contest.  It was a close race! Congratulations!  Please take a moment to check out all of the marvelous designs on display in the #gotgrit book display case just outside of the Learning Commons until the end of this month.

Jazz Band is cancelled Thursday morning.

 

Student council, our meeting tomorrow is cancelled. We will meet in two weeks.

 

Tomorrow is a spirit day:  Hat Day!  Wear a hat and show off your school spirit!

 

All Young Authors should plan to come to Room 103 after school on Thursday. Bring your chromebook to workshop your story!

 

The 7th girls basketball team beat Springman 35-20 yesterday. This win officially makes them Conference Champs! Congratulations,  girls! Cheer them on tomorrow night as they have their last home game of the season against Field.

 

The 6th grade girls basketball team beat NBJH 22-16 yesterday afternoon. With tenacious defense and a full court press that could not be broken, the girls dominated the game from the opening tip-off. Congratulations to each of the girls on a total team effort!

 

The 6th grade boys basketball team battled with NBJH all the way to the final seconds.  It was total team effort. Great work, boys!

 

The wrestling team went up to Libertyville last night, and although we lost the overall team score, they wrestled a great battle.  Come support the team as they wrestle at home this Thursday vs. Northwoods.

 

Attention 6th grade POMs: Winter sports pictures will be after school on Friday. Please make sure to bring your order forms to school! You can turn them in to Miss Gurner or Mrs. Weber.

There will be an Anime Club meeting today afterschool!

 

Showchoir Showcase takes place TONIGHT at Caruso! Admission is free! Come and see your Pizazz and Charisma friends perform their WHOLE SHOW for the first time in front of an audience! The performance will also feature small acts and songs from pop artists, the new movie Moana, Hamilton, and more! 7:00 tonight, we’ll see you at Caruso for Show Choir Showcase!

Attention sixth grade students–those of you who are interested in submitting an entry for this year’s Shepard Talks logo contest, please e-mail Mrs. Trudeau with your .jpg, .gif, or .png file by the end of sixth grade lunch period today.  Good luck to our participants!

 

The cast for the musical will be posted today at 3 p.m. on the Shepard Musical website.  First rehearsal is on Friday, January 20, at 3:05 in the Music Room.  All are expected to attend.

 
The wrestling team took home its second victory in a row yesterday as they defeated Oak Grove.   Be sure to come and cheer on our wrestling team next Thursday as they take on Northwoods Jr. High.

The 7th grade girls basketball team beat Caruso 35-2 last night in the Cable Game. Great teamwork, hustle and disciple was shown throughout the game. Highlights of the game: improving our record to 8-1 and having everyone on the team score! Congrats to all our girls!  You are great athletes and display sportsmanship consistently!

 

Yesterday afternoon, we filled the first column for a win in the Principal’s 200 Club!  Our lucky winners will receive a prize!  The Principal’s 200 Club board will be cleared today and we will start again to fill the board for another Mystery prize!  What is it going to be next time?  We will see!  Can’t wait to see what Shout Outs you will get from going above and beyond being Respectful, Responsible, and Safe here at Shepard!

 

Attention all students! You are invited to a Showchoir Showcase performance THIS Friday evening at 7:00 pm at Caruso! See your friends in Pizazz and Charisma perform, as well as small group and individual acts! Admission is free.

The 7th grade girls basketball team improved their record to 7-1 with their 35-31 win over Attea. This was a huge win as it secures our number one seed for the tourney.  Come cheer on the girls tonight at our cable game at DHS!

 

The 6th grade girls red basketball team celebrated a win last night 35-4! Their record is now 3-1. Come cheer on the girls as they take on NBJH next week!

 

There will be a Peer Mediation meeting tomorrow morning at 7:30 in the Art Room.

Attention Cheerleaders: There will be no cheerleading practice today after school. Also, please check the cheer website for important information about this week’s activities!

 

On Friday night, the red 6th grade boys basketball team got a big win over Caruso. It was a total team effort! The boys are preparing for a showdown against Maple on Tuesday.

 

Attention students! As part of the pep rally this year, we will have a three point contest. If you would like a chance at being part of this contest, fill out a raffle ticket during lunch!

 

Wednesday is a blackout Spirit Day!  Wear black and show your school spirit!

 

Attention Philanthropy Club members! We will meet tomorrow as usual after school. If you are unable to attend, please see Mrs. Ashman in Room 104 before school for a quick update on an important upcoming event.

Chess Club will meet on Monday, January 9th after school in Room 105 until 3:45 PM. It is not too late to join Chess Club! All are welcome! We will begin our Shepard Chess tournament on Monday, so chess players, please attend if you can. See Mr. Rummelhart with any questions.

 

Philanthropy Club will meet next Tuesday after school.  For those who are unable to meet after school, please stop in Room 104 Tuesday morning before school for important information on an upcoming event.

 

Bowling Club is starting Tuesday, January 10th.  Bowling Club is open to all 6th, 7th and 8th graders.  This is not a team, but a club to have fun bowling regardless of skill level.  We will bowl weekly for 7 weeks.  For more information see Mr. Hyde in Room 207 (email thyde@dps109.org).

 

Cubs vs. Sox, Jets vs. Giants, Shepard vs. Caruso. On Wednesday, January 11th, Deerfield High School will be the site of the annual Cross-town Classic, also known as the Cable Game. Come out to support your 7th and 8th grade boys and girls basketball teams as they take on Caruso. The first games start at 6:00. Be there to cheer on your friends and show your Spartan spirit as we defend our championship and hold on to the trophy!

 

Congratulations to the Shepard 6th Grade Boys Basketball team, earning their first victory of the season over crosstown rival Caruso. With an all-around team effort and some stellar defense, the Spartans prevailed with a final score of 36-32.

 

The 8th grade boys basketball team started 2017 with an impressive 47-30 win last night at Wilmette .  The Spartan offense was flying high right from the tip.  Great job, boys!
