Shepard and Caruso students pose with board of education

This year both Shepard and Caruso Middle Schools started a new club, Junior Model United Nations! Thanks to a few 109 alumni over the summer, a robust program was developed for our current middle schoolers to learn about the Model UN procedure and participate in a competition, along with other neighboring school districts. These students had the challenge of learning a new activity and strategizing how they would debate the provided topic from the lens of their assigned country. They collaborated with students from neighboring districts and created solutions to later vote on.

What a great example of our mission in action, plus, watching middle schoolers get energized about parliamentary procedure is definitely something to celebrate! 😁

What's Good in 109? Elevating student voices!

Shepard students Molly & Maria recently joined the monthly meeting of the Parent/Teacher/Student Organization (PTSO) to share their viewpoints on issues that matter to students and give feedback on ways to make Shepard an even better place. There will be a rotation of SMS students joining these meetings this year.

Student rep today... congressional rep some day? 🤔 Part of the #109Way is giving our students opportunities to help make a difference!
